At some point in my journey, I stopped fighting my hair and decided to work with it. That shift wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. I finally started paying attention, not just wishing my hair would behave, but really listening to what it was telling me.
I learned that I have low porosity hair, which was a major turning point. Low porosity hair means the cuticles are tightly closed, making it hard for moisture and products to actually enter the hair strand. Instead, the products I used seemed to just sit on the surface of my hair instead of nourishing it from within. That’s a common characteristic of low porosity hair because the cuticles lay flat, making water and hydration hard to absorb.
And trust me, I tried everything. Every new product that hit the shelves, every popular brand everyone raved about, I tested it. But nothing truly worked for my hair. I began to realize the problem wasn’t that my hair was “difficult.” The problem was that my hair simply required something different.
I discovered that when you have tightly closed cuticles, you actually need heat to help open them up so that moisture can really get in. Heat makes the hair shaft more receptive, allowing hydrating ingredients to penetrate deeper rather than just sit on top.
Before my hair could ever thrive, I knew I had to start fresh. Years of product buildup had created a barrier that blocked moisture and nutrients. So I turned to a bentonite clay mask to detox my hair and remove all those impurities. Bentonite clay has a unique ionic charge that helps draw out buildup, excess oil, and toxins from the hair and scalp, like a deep cleanse that opens the door for moisture to finally enter.
Once my hair was finally clean and reset, I could begin nourishing it the right way.
I started using the LOC method, which stands for Liquid, Oil, and Cream. This technique layers products in a way that helps maximize moisture retention:
First, the liquid (like a leave-in conditioner) hydrates the hair,
then the oil seals that hydration in,
and finally the cream locks everything together.

But here’s the thing: for my hair, a light cream just wasn’t enough. I needed something richer, something heavier that could truly seal the moisture in and support growth. Something that would work with my hair, not against it.
That’s when everything changed.
I realized that the products on the market had good intentions, and sometimes the right ingredients, but they didn’t have them in the concentrations or combinations my hair actually needed. For my hair to truly flourish and grow, I had to create what I couldn’t find. That’s how KENAH was born.
KENAH didn’t start as a business idea; it started as a personal solution. I began creating products specifically for my hair: non-toxic, made with organic materials, and formulated to actually penetrate the hair shaft and deliver moisture where it mattered most.
And then something powerful happened: I discovered I wasn’t alone.
So many others were having the same struggles. They wanted healthy, moisturized hair, but they didn’t have the time, or the desire, to make products from scratch. People needed something intentional, effective, and made with care.
So I created KENAH for them.
For the people who just want products that work with their hair, not against it.
For those who want moisture, strength, and growth without compromising on clean, quality ingredients.
For those who are done chasing trends and ready to truly understand their hair.
Because caring for natural hair isn’t just about products, it’s about knowing your hair and learning what it truly needs. And once you do that? The difference is real.
